Growing up on The Sims, I have a hard time taking virtual reality seriously. I still picture “virtual life’ to mean two avatars talking in picture bubbles and making the heart shaped bed shake. We used The Sims to create life, not to emulate our own. So the idea of a virtual job fair in Second Life, while inevitable in this digital world, is hard for me to take seriously. There also seems like there would be too many opportunities to blow a first “impression” because of internet connections gone haywire or uploading issues.
But it seems that Amazon is venturing into the virtual headhunting. And where they go I will follow. The appeal of catching the attention of a corporation like that with my innovative approach to a job search and my tech skills makes me want to dabble in this idea. So maybe it’s not such a crazy idea after all.
