If the devil forced me into one career, it would be law. But I do find myself drawn to articles and cases about intellectual property, mostly since the advent of the Internet and the vast amount of information that often begs the question, who thought of this?? But one area of property that I had never considered is magic. This Guardian article talks about a Spain magician that truly believes that a magician never reveals his secret. He believes that magic tricks should be protected under intellectual property law and should not be mass distributed via the Internet, TV, etc.
I know very little about the culture of magic aside from my middle school boyfriend’s dream of becoming the next Hodini but this seems like an interesting case. Too bad it doesn’t seem to hold up in court.
